Matthew Hazell - Associate Director

Matthew joined Complyport in December 2009 and leads the Corporate Authorisation team. he has over ten years of regulatory experience as an employee of the FSA.

Matthew's most recent role at the FSA was as a Senior Associate within the Permissions Department where he was responsible for assessing and making recommendations on applications for corporate authorisation and individual approval. He was nominated a subject matter expert to assist in the delivery of the Authorisation and Approval training module to new supervisors as part of the FSA's supervisory enhancement induction programme.

On the corporate side, Matthew dealt with applications from a wide range of market sectors which within the asset management sector included assessing regulatory risk in algorithmic traders, a wide range of fund management firms and both simple and complex advising and arranging firms. Matthew also led the review of e-money issuers, mortgage lenders and a number of large and complex retail and wholesale insurance companies, including overseeing the authorisation process of the UK's first insurance special purpose vehicle.

On the individual approval side, Matthew was involved in leading and being a member of interview panels charged with assessing the fitness and propriety of individuals applying to carry out senior management positions in the UK's largest financial institutions, as part of the FSA's enhanced approvals process for individuals holding 'Significant Influence Functions'.

Matthew also has a degree in Economics from the University of Birmingham and holds the Financial Planning and Investment Management Certificates.
